This is a add on dictionary for use with Microsoft Word and Works. This dictionary contains proper names, country names, capitals, common vernaculars, computer terms with specific interest towards Macs and abbreviations. The idea to create such dictionary started way back in the early days of my Mac development. I found a document on some computer called ╥Dictionary Helper╙. Well I used that and the million and a half of my own added words to create these dictionaries. No longer will you have to click the add button every time Word or Works is sure a word like Russia is misspelled and suggests Rushing as a replacement.
Requirements:
This Dictionary is for use with Microsoft Word 5.0, 5.1, 5.1a and Microsoft Works 3.0. I have no plans to create a dictionary for Word 4.0 and Works 2.0 or any other word processor, but if enough people want one I╒ll consider it.
Updates:
I plan to keep updating this dictionary on a regular basis, so look for newer versions.
Installation:
Microsoft Word 5.0, 5.1, 5.1a-
1. Open the folder where Microsoft Word resides. Then open the ╥Word Commands╙ folder. Move ╥Word Expanded Dictionary╙ to the ╥Word Commands╙ folder.
2. Launch Microsoft Word.
3. From the ╥Tools╙ menu choose ╥Preferences╙.
4. Click on the ╥Spelling╙ icon.
5. Click ╥Open╙
6. Unless you are already there, navigate to the ╥Word Commands╙ folder just like any open dialog box.
7. Select ╥ Word Expanded Dictionary╙.
ALL DONE!!!
Microsoft Works 3.0-
WARNING: Microsoft Works only allow one custom dictionary be open at any one time. If you already have some words added to a custom dictionary, you will have to choose which is more important.
1. Open the ╥System Folder╙ and then the ╥Extensions╙ Folder. Next open the ╥Microsoft╙ folder and lastly open ╥Spelling╙
2. Move ╥Works Expanded Dictionary╙ into the ╥Microsoft╙ Folder.
3 .Open Microsoft Works.
4. From the ╥Options╙ menu choose ╥Spelling Options╙
5. Click on ╥Change Dictionary╙.
6. Select ╥Works Expanded Dictionary╙.
